Introducing...

A Thursday night in a small church hall in Tavistock was not the most auspicious setting for a concert, but two minibus loads of us piled in and woah! what a night!
The DJ was on stage mixing his choons, a couple of breakdancers were hitting the mat and then on came Doug Walker - the warm up act. Three funky tunes and a bit of chat with the audience over hairstyles, where you from and we're not ashamed to be Christians, and then they hit us.
Thebandwithnoname exploded onto stage and with their uptempo tunes and funky dancing gave us a night to remember. thebandwithnoname are one of the sensations of 2002. They are based in Manchester where they are the touring band for the Innervation Trust - a ministry that reaches young people with the gospel right where they're at through music and a network of schools teams.
The band are "MC Presha" (real name Adam), the 19 year old MC of the band from Gloucestershire, 25 year old "Bobsta", originally from Hawaii and known to many from his days as a dancer/choreographer with V*enna, and "Chip K" who was born in Florida, grew up in Jerusalem, married a girl in Newcastle whom he met in California and now lives in Manchester!!
thebandwithnoname released their debut album back in the summer and have spent the autumn on a 60 day tour to promote it and the work of Innervation. The album is called "the blitz" and features 'Take Up The Tempo' their debut single, the incredible 'Amazing Grace' which has received a lot of airplay on CrossRhythms Radio, the anthemic 'Hal-le-lu-jah' and the funky 'That's The Way It's Meant To Be'.
The sound is difficult to label because of the influences of soul, nu-metal and break beat. The band themselves describe it as "industrial break beat". It certainly got the audience in Tavistock going. For over an hour the crowd were jumping, dancing, clapping and waving. Then they were invited to sit down while Chip K shared some verses from the Bible explaining their faith and challenging the Christians to avoid being lukewarm but to live out a radical Christianity.
After a final song the band then held a signing session chatting to the fans and scrawling their signatures on everything from newly bought posters and t-shirts to smelly shoes and sweaty trainers!
Plans are already underway to bring the band into a couple of schools in Cornwall so watch this space. In the meantime check out:
