Magnified is the youth club of St Austell Baptist Church. It is held on a Friday evening during school term time in the Cornerstone Christian Community Centre. It is run by a team of youth leaders. On any Friday evening there are usually between 35 and 40 young people there.

Magnified is a club that you join, not a drop in centre. Being a member entitles you to all sorts of privileges, such as going on the trips the club organises, and being able to enter all sorts of competitions. Someone arriving for the first time has a free introductory night. After that they need to bring back the membership form signed by a parent/guardian and pay a subscription of 50p per week. Magnified now has over 70 members. It is open to young people in Years 7 to 11 at school.

On a Friday night Magnified has had a series of games nights with all sorts of activities ranging from table tennis to computer games, air hockey to table football, giant pick up sticks to pool. There are also themed evenings, film nights and quiz nights.

Magnified members have enjoyed over the past year trips to the Adrenalin Quarry (Menheniot), to Crealy (Wadebridge), to Oasis Fun Pool (Newquay), to a Skate & Swim Session at Plymouth Pavilions and to the CreationFest Music Festival at the Royal Cornwall Showground. They also had a weekend away at the Boscastle Youth Hostel. Another highlight was when they hosted a concert by the Sheffield based group Golddigger - the only Cornish venue on their UK Media Rules Tour.

Coming up for the summer term is a 70’s themed night, a World Cup themed barbeque, a Quiz Night, a Park Night, a special night for people nearing the end of Y6 to try us out, and our annual Magnified Awards Night. We will also have another visit to Crealy, and some trips back to CreationFest. Members will be given the opportunity to do the DEEP course. This is a six week look at a number of life issues from a Christian perspective and is a good introduction to the Christian faith.
