Unity @ Liskeard

Unity brings together the youth groups from St Martin's Church, Liskeard, the Greenbank Christian Centre, Liskeard and Grace Community Church, Morval once a month. This spring the event has under gone a revamp. Kernowyouth caught up with the action in February and March...

The new look Unity was organised and led by a team of young people from the three churches involved. It was still held at Greenbank Christian Centre, although they are looking for a neutral venue. The programme included its usual mix of worship led by the Unity band, which changed in its composition from February to March as it seeks to provide a more united musical front to proceedings.

There were the silly games. In February there was a food tasting competition where the blindfolded victims had to name what they were eating. In March, as the theme was "strength", there were two arm-wrestling duals!

There was also some testimony as the audience of 11 to 18 year olds were told of the difference Jesus has made in people's lives.

In February the guest speaker was Miguel Fernandez of St Austell. Miguel is a karate instructor and shared what God had been doing in his life in recent months. In March Greenbank's own Dave spoke.

In March two of the young people from Grace, Sarah and Jo, performed a superb dance to the extended version of Bryan Adams smash hit "Everything I do".

Unity is heading in the right direction. The programme has improved from its struggles in the autumn. However, the programme is still geared heavily towards the older end of the audience. The speaking sections are still quite long and apart from entering into the worship, the audience is still very passive. However, I am convinced the event will go from strength to strength as the young people under the direction of their youth leaders develop the concept which birthed this event.
