Epic - Jesus Revolution

Something completely different for the May EPIC. Dave Pett was there to report for Kernowyouth...11th May 2007 was the date of the latest EPIC in Launceston. This one was a departure from the format that has been the norm for some time, the shape of things to come maybe? First of the changes was the change of venue from the football club to Central Methodist Church in Launceston as the organisers expected a large crowd. This was in many ways a special EPIC as it was a joint venture between Dave 'EPIC' Banks and Egloskerry Community Church. The main reason for this was that the 'Jesus Revolution' team had been invited to the area for the week. The team arrived on the Monday all the way from Denmark to start the UK part of their European tour. The team of 7 had already performed in Norway, Germany, Holland and Denmark amongst other countries and after the UK dates they were going to Spain. This year the team comprised of Julie, Ida and Oddliev from Norway. Andi from Hungary, Fabien from France, Hallur from the Faroe Islands and Brandon from the USA.
During the week they were invited to perform at Launceston College for years 7 and 8 assemblies where they performed some dances and talked about their Christian faith and inviting people to come to the concert. One girl was heard to say that it was 'the best assemly she had ever been to!!' They also had the opportunity to talk in RE lessons in Bude Comprehensive School.
Over 180 people (mostly teenagers) packed into Central Methodist Church on the Friday evening to see the Jesus Revolution group peform. Youth groups came from as far afield as Holsworthy, Camelford, Bude as well as many who had seen the group perform in the assemblies. The Jesus Revolution team performed their set which was a mixture of dance, and singing with a great video backdrop. The lighting was superb and the whole gig was very professional. The music was very upbeat and lively, very much from the Europop genre which seemed to go down well with the punters. The 2 singers were Oddliev and Andi whilst Julie, Ida, Brandon and Fabien danced and Hallur managed the the sound and lighting for the gig.
All the songs reflected the message of the Gospel strongly and some of the dancers shared their faith in Jesus between the songs. At the end of the gig Barndon spoke for a few minutes and shared the Gospel. He then prayed and invited anyone who wanted to become a Christian to put their hands up and come to the front. It was great to see nearly 60 young people from around the hall come forward in response.
So a great evening. There are more gigs planned for the near future so watch this space. Report & photos by Dave Pett.
