CCYC, the Cornwall Christian Youth Camp, met in Bodmin on Saturday 12th November for the Reunion from its summer camp. Youngsters from Camborne to Liskeard and all sorts of places in between gathered at Bodmin College to revive memories of the week spent together in Bodmin at the end of July. Many who were at CCYC 2005 considered it the best camp for a number of years, and a very high percentage of the campers made it back to the Reunion. Unfortunately work and university commitments meant that not all of the Volunteer Team were able to make it.
The Reunion started with a swim and a ride on the flume at the Dragon Leisure Centre, Bodmin before pizza and other yummy things for tea at the College. The evening saw music provided by SID – Speaking In Drums – a worship collective from the Cowethas Fellowship based in Truro. Many of the songs which had become firm favourites at camp were again sung.
Then there were clips from the camp video produced by Paul Adams which brought back many happy memories of the trips and activities in the summer. These ranged from the River Raft Race to the Battle of the Field. Finally, CCYC’s Chairman, Phil Hadley gave an epilogue challenging the young people to experience the thrill of life as God intended it. He spoke about a flume is not built just to know all the facts and figures about it. It’s purpose is to ride it. God didn’t intend us to know about Him and the Christian Life. His purpose is for us to live it to the full so that we make an impact in our society. The evening finished with the young people chilling and chatting in the CCYC cafe, with hot chocolate and drinks served by Steve Pomfrett of Falmouth’s ‘Great Shakes’ Milk Shake Parlour. The audience were kept amused with an open mic slot providing the entertainment. Andy Nicholson, one of the camp leaders, and a Methodist Youth Worker from the Redruth District, said: “We have been delighted with the high percentage of campers returning for the Reunion. They have had a great time. It seems like camp was only yesterday!”
CCYC Chairman Phil Hadley said, "It's been a great way to finish off CCYC 2005. Now we look forward to next year. The plans are already underway, and we look forward to the Volunteer Team gathering together in January to really make CCYC 2006 even better. We hope the churches in Cornwall will see the benefit of sharing in this ministry." Everyone is now eagerly awaiting the final version of the Camp DVD which will be on sale by the end of the month. All are keenly looking forward to the release of booking forms for 2006. Several young people who had not been at camp in 2005 came along to find out what all the fuss was about, and went away determined they would come along next summer. The next CCYC event is its spring Preview Event on Saturday 18th March 2006. However, those who want to be on the Volunteer Team need to be at the first planning meeting on Monday 9th January.
