CCYC Reunion

CCYC gathered in Truro to relive its memories of the summer camp which many claimed was the best ever...

Saturday 22nd November and about 50 young people descended on Truro Bowl at 4pm in the afternoon. CCYC was taking the place over for its Camp Reunion. Campers sorted out who they wanted to bowl with and were soon on the lanes trying to get those strikes and spares. Ben even had a go (inadvertently) at launching himself down the lane!

A high percentage of those who had enjoyed CCYC during the first week of the summer holidays at Bodmin had gathered along with a number of the volunteer youth workers who staff CCYC. There was a happy atmosphere as young people from different youth groups all around the county renewed the friendships forged at camp.

After the bowling there was a short walk across the city centre to Truro Baptist Church. Here the first activity on the agenda was tea. A local chip shop had provided sausage and chips. These were soon devoured. Campers were then urged to check the pile of lost property from camp before rushing to buy the CCYC 2003 camp video. Campers also signed a card for Rhiannon who was unable to make the Reunion due to a short stay in hospital.

The Reunion then moved into the church sanctuary where they watched edited highlights from the camp video on the big screen. Whoops of delight or screams of embarrassment could be heard depending on whether it was a friend or yourself caught on camera! The video rekindled memories of the trip to the beach, the water slide and the Hunt the Volunteer activity. We also saw the morning and evening sessions, mealtimes and proof that some people actually did get some sleep during the week!

The video was followed by a powerful drama performed by Mark (I fancy being Bruce Almighty) Oliver and Vicky (Does God really want my garden shed?) Johnson. Becky Trevivian then interviewed Ben Westaway (volunteer), Corinne (camper) and Matt (camper) about their experiences at camp. All of them seemed to have had a great time and are keen to come back next summer. They were all willing to recommend it to their friends.

The CCYC band featuring Ben Westaway (lead guitar), Pete Batten (bass), Andy Nicholson (bongos and vocals) and Becky Trevivian (vocals) led us in a time of worship singing some of the songs that had helped shape the spiritual experience that CCYC 2003 was. This ended with a camp favourite "We will walk with God" complete with African lyrics!

Campers and volunteers were then able to pick up booking forms for CCYC 2004, all dead keen for another week of camp next July. If you are interested in finding out more about CCYC 2004 then mark Saturday 20th March 2004 in your diary as that's when CCYC will be holding its preview event. Keep an eye on the Kernowyouth What's On Page for full details.
