CCYC - Wot's it all about?

The CCYC Preview Event held at Bodmin College at the end of March was a great success. Over 70 young people from around the county came to find out more about the summer camp. Some came from as far east as Launceston, some from as far west as Camborne, and lots of places inbetween as well.

The afternoon started with Sumo Wrestling, Gladiator games and a 30 foot inflatable bungee run. For the Sumo there were two sizes of giant suits to put on, and you then had to push your opponent out of the ring. Referee Andy Nicholson made sure all was done properly, including the bowing and thigh slapping!

For the bungee run you had to put on a nappy style harness and run down the inflatable and place a pad on the velcro to show how far you had gone. It was hard pulling against the bungee rope and few made it to the end. Jo Atack was over-seeing the action here.

On the Gladiator game you had to stand on a small platform and with a giant dumbell knock your opponent off. You wore protective head gear and had a soft landing on the inflatable. Nigel Croft and Steve Pomfrett were umpiring the bouts here. The various youth groups mixed in and had "a wicked time" according to one teenager.

The youngsters then tucked into a sausage and chip tea before an evening presentation chaired by Phil Hadley of video clips, a quiz activity on Proverbs led by Andy Nicholson, and worship led by the band from EPIC in Launceston, who by their second set really got the audience rocking! John Flavell of the Hull based Label of Love youth ministry, who is the speaker at this summer's camp, sent a video message introducing himself and explaining what he will be talking about in July.

CCYC is a week's residential holiday for 11 to 16 year olds to enable them to discover more of what being a Christian is all about. It is held at Bodmin College and run by a team of volunteer youthworkers from various churches across the county. Further details for both campers and volunteer helpers can be found by clicking on the Home button at the top of this page. Booking closes at the end of May so ACT FAST!
