Praying Together for Cornwall
September sees a week of prayer for Cornwall. The young people of Cornwall have been called to a day of prayer at Bodmin College on September 27th. Phil Hadley tells us what it’s all about... Three men in Redruth had a vision of a thousand people praying for revival. At the same time God has given hundreds of believers vision and faith to believe that God was going to visit their village, town and community with Revival Fire.
Jim Graham, a well known pastor and speaker at events like Spring Harvest and Keswick, visited Cornwall in August 2002. He felt God was going to do something new in our County. He had a vision too. He writes, “I had a picture of God pouring out His blessing in such a way that it spilled over from the south west peninsula to the rest of the United Kingdom and even the world.” Thus a week of prayer for Cornwall was organised including various meetings around the county, a two day conference in St Ives and a final prayer rally at Truro Methodist Church. It was also suggested that the young people of Cornwall may like to meet together to pray during that week. So a team of youth workers from across the county met together and started to plan such an event. However, they felt that if the young people of Cornwall are going to pray it should be the young people of Cornwall issuing that call to prayer and organising the event. Thus the youth leaders stepped aside and a small team of young people from all over the county met together to sort the event. Incredibly the programme they suggested was 99% the same as the youth leaders. Both generations felt they were tapping into God’s heart. Bodmin was chosen as the venue as it was central to the county. The College premises have been made available by the Head and Governors. Thus the Praying Together for Cornwall Youth Day came about. It will be a day of praying in all sorts of creative ways. Individually, in small groups, as a large group. There will be opportunities to use a variety of gifts and expressions during the day (For example, you will be able to use art or poetry to express your worship and prayer). There will be a walk to pray on the Beacon – the hill in the centre of Bodmin from which you can see to the north, east, south and west of the county. There will be times of worship with a live band. There will be Bible teaching from Jim Graham. It will be a landmark event in the lives of the young people of this county. Make sure you and your youth group have the opportunity to be part of it.
