Telling others about my Friend

by Tim Huxford

Jesus wanted to be my friend and would rescue me from the punishment I deserved

I became a Christian when I was seven. Obviously I didn't understand everything about God and the Bible at that age (and still don't), but I knew that Jesus wanted to be my friend and would rescue me from the punishment I deserved, if I asked him to.

Since then, I looked at loads of issues, like how I can be sure it's true, what God is like, and how this does/should affect my life...? Talking to Christian friends, and reading the Bible, and other books, have all been really helpful in sorting out the truth, and its relevance to life now.

People knew I was a Christian, but I didn't talk about it unless I had too.

Through school, I guess I kept what I believed pretty quiet. I used to sneak off to the Christian Union meetings without telling my friends etc. People knew I was a Christian, but I didn't talk about it unless I had too.

When I started university in London, I wanted to be open about my faith and to live in a way that reflected it. I got involved with the university Christian Union, and started to read the Bible, expecting God to speak through it! I still struggled and messed things up, but God

God was much more real and relevant to me than when I had kept it quiet

was much more real and relevant to me than when I had kept it quiet in my school years.

It hasn't always been obvious at the time, and I definitely haven't deserved it, but I can look back at how God has always been there - guiding, helping, comforting, encouraging - like a really good friend.
