I Know What You Did Last Night!
Tellin’ ya mates about Jesus
I walked into the classroom. It was 8.45am Monday morning. It had been a great weekend. The youth group hike on Saturday had been terrific fun, and even the Sunday evening service had been kicking thanks
to the visit of a Jamaican/American 6 foot 5 inch basketball playing Christian who had shared his fearless testimony of witnessing to his team mates.
Some of the others in the room were beginning to sense my embarrassment and all other conversations were put on pause |
"Hi guys!" I said. "I called for you last night," said Rob. "Oh!" I said, the news taking me by suprise. Rob was a school mate, not a weekend
mate! "Where were you?" he enquired. "Out," I said, stating the obvious. "You don't say! Where did you go?" "Oh, just out." Some of the
others in the room were beginning to sense my embarrassment and all other conversations were put on pause. "Oh yeah. Who with?" continued Rob. "Just some of the
family and friends." "So what did you do? Where did you go?" It was obvious this interrogation was not going to let me off the
hook. So I coughed and said, "Chhmmmhmmmmurch." "You what?" said Rob feeling he might be on to something. "Chhmmmhmmmmurch." "Say it when you're not coughing, because
I wished for the floor to open up and swallow me. I could just feel my face going red |
I still didn't catch it," said Rob, thinking he was being helpful! "Church," I whispered. "Where?" said Rob. "Church," I finally said so everyone could hear.
I could have died. I wished for the floor to open up and swallow me. I could just feel my face going red.
So why was it so hard? Ok I was only 13 at the time, but Jesus had called me to be his witness, to speak up for him, but I struggled to even admit going to
church. How could I ever tell these guys about Jesus?
In church you're keen to tell the world, but Monday morning at school it's a different story. |
Ever felt like that? Ever experienced that problem? In church you're keen to tell the world, but Monday morning at school or College or work it's a different story.
I needed help. What advice would you give? What would you say to a mate going through that difficulty? Why not click on our Discussion Board and send us your advice on how to witness to your mates. What
should I have done? How could I have done better next time?
