ABIDING BY THE HIGHWAY CODE
The news report said, "Most motorists have not read the Highway Code since they took their test. And now the motoring organisations are worried that many drivers don't know what the
road signs mean."
So the TV reporter did a spot test on several unsuspecting motorists asking them to identify some of the signs in the book. Some struggled embarrassingly. No wonder there are fears for
our safety on the roads!
The Bible is sometimes referred to as the Christian's Highway Code |
The Bible is sometimes referred to as the Christian's Highway Code. So when did you last read yours? Could you still recognise the signs and warnings? Or are we coming to grief
because we no longer know what the Book says, let alone live by it? Time for a spot test?
"A gossip separates close friends," warns
Proverbs 16 v28 (NIV) but how many of us have passed on that piece of information that has helped to steal someone's reputation?
"Don't become partners with those who reject God," says 2
Corinthians 6 v14 (The Message) but how many of us get into unhealthy relationships thinking we know best?
"Do not get drunk... Instead be filled with the Spirit,",
we read in Ephesians 5 v18 (NIV), but how many of us have knocked it back only to regret it the following morning?
The Highway Code is there to allow us to use the roads safely and wisely. That way we can travel to our heart's content and know the freedom of the open road.
will you join me as part of a new generation in seeking to live by the Book and to cruise the open road as God desires? |
God's Word is there to teach us, rebuke us, correct us and train us in righteousness so that as people of God we may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3 v16/17). Only when we read it and
live by it will we go through life avoiding the dangers and pitfalls on the journey and know the freedom of the abundant life God has for us.
I know there have been times I've been found wanting both in knowing what the Book says and in living by it. But will you join me as part of a new generation in
seeking to live by the Book and to cruise the open road as God desires? Excuse me, I'm off for a read. - Phil
