Castles in the Sky
“Do you ever question your life? Do you ever wonder why?” asks Ian van Dahl in one of the dance anthems of the summer. “Do you ever see in your dreams all the castles in the sky? Oh tell me why do we
build castles in the sky?”
Looking around the club floor it didn’t look as if too many were interested in a little philosophical introspection at that moment! But when they got home and were in the quiet of their room, maybe they
were wondering what had happened to the night.
“Why had they had too much to drink and spent too much of their hard earned cash from their holiday job?
Why had that guy who had seemed so charming with his chat up patter turned out to be another grimy sleaze bag just out for a grope?”
There had been such high hopes of this night out. This was gonna be the night that dreams were made of. But Jordan was sick in the taxi. Ralph had got into a fight and come off worse. And this is supposed
to be the time of their lives!
Do you ever question your life? The Bible says we should. In fact, God says, “Come on, let us reason together.”
Solomon said, “Remember God – before the silver cord is broken, or the golden bowl is broken.” He is picturing a hanging lamp suspended by a silver chain. If only one link snaps, this light and beauty
will perish, suggesting how fragile life is. Solomon says we should remember God before life turns bad, or something tragic happens. In fact he says, “What makes a person whole is fearing God and keeping
his commandments.” God is not out to kill our fun. In fact Jesus said, “I have come that you may have life and live it to the full.” But Jesus said we need to live for eternity and not just build castles
in the sky.
Jesus said, “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust -–or worse! – stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it's safe." He's not talking pie in
the sky but a living relationship with the Son of God that gives a fulfilling and purposeful life. Do you ever question your life? Do you ever wonder why? You should – it will make the difference!
